BOB Gateway is now fully customizable on both source and destination chains, enabling builders to implement complex 1-click BTCFi deployments and withdrawals across 11 major chains.

Previously, BOB Gateway supported Bitcoin > BOB with an arbitrary call (e.g. depositing into SolvBTC). With this update, it is now possible to execute Bitcoin > BOB > destination chain with a custom action (an arbitrary call executed on the destination chain once tokens arrive) - such as depositing native BTC into Aave on Base.

By eliminating complex bridging processes for users and enabling direct conversion to and from native BTC, BOB Gateway makes it easy for developers to tap into native BTC liquidity and user base with frictionless UX.

How it Works

To enable custom actions on destination chains, BOB has implemented a LayerZero Composer contract, leveraging LayerZero messaging.

What this means is when a user sends native BTC, it routes through BOB and bridges to the destination chain via LayerZero's OFT standard. The composer contract then executes whatever action the builder has specified. It is also worth mentioning that these composer contracts can be reused by anyone to execute arbitrary calls from LayerZero source chains - including applications beyond Gateway.

Thanks to today’s integration, nearly 15,000 dapps on 11 chains can now implement complex 1-click BTCFi deployments and withdrawals. Some use case examples include:

  • Providing native BTC liquidity to the wBTC/USDC pool on Unichain
  • Depositing native BTC into the SolvBTC.BNB Pendle market on BSC
  • Swapping native BTC to Coinbase cbBTC on Base
  • Using native BTC as collateral in Aave on Ethereum and taking out a loan

But these are starting points. By adding custom actions to the BOB Gateway SDK, the DeFi opportunities are effectively endless.

Why This Matters for Builders

Building on native BTC is hard. It requires very different engineering resources and tooling compared to smart contract-based chains. With custom DeFi actions, builders can abstract away the complexity of DeFi for their users, making even complex positions like looping strategies accessible to institutions and retail users for real BTC DeFi adoption.

Commenting on today’s BOB Gateway SDK integration, Lamps, Product Lead at LayerZero, had this to say:

“By using LayerZero, BOB’s Gateway turns a multi-step transaction flow into a single programmable action across 11 connected chains. These are the kinds of solutions that will push BTCFi forward”.
